Bikepacking GR 50 day 2: boulangerie

Bijgewerkt op: 10 okt 2020

The clouds and showers predicted by meteofrance did not show up that morning.

7:30 am: for breakfast we had a sun-drenched single track descent that turned out to be excellent rideable. We drew energy from this benefit.

After 2.5 hours we were spit out in Le Bourg-d'Oisans. A town in the valley of the Romanche where we started with a good habit. Rob the local boulangerie and feasting on pizza and cola, as a second breakfast. You can never gain enough energy on trips like this. Furthermore, we filled up all available space in the backpack with pastries and pains au chocolat.

The rest of the day was simple, 2 climbs of 1000 vertical meters each. After the 7th turn of the typical climb to Alpe d'Huez, we opted for a quiet variant. Let that mill spin guys. A quick power nap next to a spring gave me a second wind for the 2nd climb.

The planned camp at the lakes on the plateau d'Emparis (2440 m) were canceled due to the cloudy and rather chilly weather. The hut warden (gardien) of a nearby mountainhut treated us that evening with a hearty tartiflette (tipical dish) and a Genepy (wild flower digestive) as a nightcap. That ends well, all right. 57 km and 2500 m of elevation gain.
