Bikepacking GR 50 - riding a thin line

Bijgewerkt op: 10 okt 2020

After a steady build-up of bikepacking trips, it was finally time for the real work. Making multi-day hikes and making day trips with the mountain bike in the high mountains were known to me. The combination of these 2 not until now.

After some research my eye fell on the GR 50. A large route path that spans the entire massif of Les Ecrins in the French Alps. Also called the tour of the haute Dauphiné, a balcony path of more than 400 km that guarantees an overdose of beautiful landscapes. Great trailways are fantastic trails designed for the adventurous hiker.

With some goodwill you can also convert them into a mountain bike route. The goodwill consists of the everyday being willing to push, drag or carry the packed steed on 2 wheels. With a starting weight of 25 kg (including 1.5 l of water and half a liter of spirits 😊) and a backpack of around 5 kg, it is not evident… we noticed.
