About time to go into the real mountains with the Avenida de los volcanos as a guide. A so-called avenue located between 2500m and 3500m flanked with volcanoes from 5000 to more than 6000m. In the heart of Andes.
In part 5 we did a pretty tough 2-day hike with the Quilotoa crater lake as the central point. This tour took place between 3200 and 3900 m. Each step therefore counted doubleš. In addition to the beauty of nature, we were introduced to life as it is in one of the poorer regions in the Andes.
We exchanged chocolatĆ©e for photos, Jenne's eye was spewed by a lama and Ebe learned to milk cows ... š
After a long acclimatization period, it was time for the real thing. The Chimborazo, a volcano of 6310m invites you to explore your limits. Jorge, an old "hielero" of 73, took us to these great heights. In days gone by, Hieleros went to get blocks of ice at the bottom of the glacier to sell in the city. To make the job a little easier, horses brought us up to 4400m. We had to do the last 450m on our own feet
To make it complete, we stayed, quite unexpectedly, at a family's home. A very simple but intense experience with this very welcoming peoples.
